On the agenda

Having emerged, blinking, from the British Library after completing a big piece of post-graduate work, I’ve been gleefully catching up on the content I missed during my time as an academic anchorite. I thought I’d share a few of the more interesting ones, before picking up my adventures as a kinky escort right where I left off. Here’s what I’ve been enjoying – perhaps unsurprisingly, most of them cover some of my favourite themes: desire, kink, lust and gender.

  • Having been obsessed with her most recent video, in which ‘American Gigolo’ gets a deliciously gender-queer update, my infatuation with Chris of Christine and the Queens after reading this New York Times interview
  • The always exceptional Zoé Samudzi writing about ‘Interracial’ Cuckold porn and what it reveals about white insecurities .
  • I return regularly to Eli Goldstone’s nuanced and eloquent sex column for SomeSuchStories.
  • As someone that has practised ethical non monogamy for years, this piece on which elements of it may be useful for monogamous people had me nodding along in agreement.
  • I stumbled across this astonishing short essay by Maia Jenkins in SmokeLong, about power, class and masculinity. (CN for discussion of sexual violence).
  • Why we should all be worried by the way Paypal (and Youtube) wield their alarmingly nebulous ‘anti porn’ criteria to target people producing ASMR videos (little more than a series of sounds), in Engadget. Horrible, yes. Shocking, no.
  • Andrea Long Chu talking to Anastasia Berg about desire and wanting bad things (in response to this piece by Amia Srinivasan) prompts some fascinating questions about how we can attempt to engage with what we’re aroused by.
  • This (admittedly now quite old) article on crushes in New Enquiry is always worth a re-read, for its perfect description of the totalising, vulnerability-inducing force of a crush.
  • As someone with more than a passing interesting in porn and the archive (even if those notions may seem ostensibly antithetical) this glimpse into one of Canada’s largest pornographic archives is full of hidden delights.
  • And of course, if you’ve read all those and fancy discussing them over dinner, you definitely wont want to miss this article about London’s hottest new restaurants.
