On Californian dreaming

I’ve been a little quiet on the blog and social media front of late. Forgive me – I’ve been on a bit of a whirlwind trip to LA and have only just found time for an update. I’ve always had a particular affinity with the West Coast, so it was wonderful to visit again to see old (and new) friends.

My trip included:

Drinking cocktails at the Bazaar by José Andrés, along with some delicious small plates (although the American definition of small plates varies somewhat to the UK one..)

Watching my first ever ice hockey game in the appropriately-named sports bar Goal, although not even the smorgasbord of junk food and cute waitresses could soften the blow of a Rangers defeat. Thank you D for popping my NHL cherry. I’ll be back for more.

Shooting some new photos, both indoor and on the beach, so standby for those soon. My photos are pretty much always digital, but on this occasion we shot some 35mm film, and as you can see from the header photo on this post, they came out very intimate and soft.  I hope you like them as much as I do.

Losing myself for a few hours in the Last Book Store, before leaving with armfuls of new reading material. On the subject of books, I finally got round to reading Emma Cline’s (Californian-set) The Girls, and it was just as poetic and haunting as everyone said it would be.

Exploring Grand Central Market and sampling lots of delicious morsels before wandering around Downtown admiring all the architecture.

Getting brain freeze at the super kitsch Museum of Ice Cream exhibition, and rolling around in a swimming pool of sprinkles.

Playing with the delectable Zooey Zara who is a certifiable kinky goddess. In addition to lots of sublime rope bondage, we also made use of her frankly mind-blowing violet wand. I’ve always been a little ambivalent about electrics, but after this experience, the wand is firmly on my wishlist.

Being utterly transported by Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrored Room at the Broad. Worth the wait, and the rest of the collection is fantastic too.

Eating at several incredible restaurants, including Providence, Spago, Gjelina and the Tasting Kitchen in Venice. I also found myself in Glendale one evening with friends, and had a great dinner at Little Beast.

Making it rain at Jumbo’s Clown Room, whilst looking on with awe and plain lust at every dancer.

Getting my caffeine fix at at Intelligentsia, Blue Bottle and Verve, as well as picking up a couple of bags of beans to take home.

Sun worshipping in Palm Springs for a few days, where inordinately attractive pool boys kept bringing me cocktails, the sweethearts.

Screaming in delight on rollercoasters at Universal Studios, as well as being totally bewitched by Harry Potter world, the replica Hogsmeade and the Ollivanders wand shop show.

In N Out Burger. Animal style. Of course.

Hiking up to Griffith Observatory before catching my breath and taking in the spectacular view.

All in all, an excellent trip, and hopefully I’ll be back stateside soon. If you’d like to be kept abreast of my travel plans, join my travel mailing list. I’m back in London now, and will be taking appointments (jet lag permitting) from 20th onwards. Get in touch if you want to see my tan in person. If you needed any further incentive, here’s one more preview from my shoot:
